Tawnaree Gardens has expended much time and effort to test and produce
field grown specimens fully capable of withstanding our climatic extremes.
They are tested for typical conditions found in Eastern Ontario, Western
Quebec, and Northeastern United States. They can withstand the wind and
temperature extremes as well as varying moisture conditions often found
in the area over the years (droughts and floods). This would be comparable
to North American Zone 4 and above.
Care has been taken to cultivate the soil with minimal environmental
impact. Horses were used for plowing and preparing the land. Gardening
functions are scheduled at times in the year to reduce soil compaction and
promote healthy root growth. Various mulches are used to control the
moisture content of soil.
